The best detective in all of Hawaii has been commemorated in the most important manner possible – on a tiki mug. Tiki Farm brings us the P.I. Hawaiian Idol Mug, complete with mustached goodness. Ferrari sold separately.
A few Magnum, P.I. trivia tidbits, courtesy of Wikipedia:
Tom Selleck won an Emmy for his Magnum role in 1984
His commitment to the show forced Selleck to pass on the Indiana Jones role in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
A Magnum, P.I. movie is rumored to be in the works, with Matthew McConaughey in the starring …

As everyone starts giving up on their 2009 resolutions, here are a few 2009 Drinking Goals worth enjoying (perhaps even implementing) from the Tasty Booze Blog. Not at all related to all that is tiki, but still good for a few laughs. My personal favorite:
Open and close a bar
I’m not talking about stopping in for a cheery morning pint before work and then stopping back by for a night cap. I’m talking about being the first person to belly-up in the morning and being the last one the bartender asks …

Best wishes to everyone as you celebrate the Christmas holiday. May you be surrounded by family and close friends these next couple of weeks.
If you are looking for a couple of selected cocktails to keep everyone warm, check out the English Bishop or Feuerzangenbowle from the Christmas Cocktail Project. We’re looking forward to trying out the English Bishop.

For those who grew up with Shrinky Dinks, here is an unusual Christmas gift – the Shrinky Dinks Tiki Island Party Pack! It is designed for you and seven of your guests (or, your kid’s guests) to re-live the fun of Shrinky Dinks. Those of us who grew up with these are now blessed with an opportunity to share the experience with our children.
By the way, my hunch is that these probably aren’t nearly as fun as I remember, but I am looking forward to finding out.

Various myths and traditions come together to form the broad and diverse Tiki mythology.
The name “Tiki” is actually the name of the first man in Maori mythology, which originated off the coast of New Zealand. Within that tradition, the first human was actually a woman …

Here’s a cool idea – a floating tiki bar just off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale. This June, the Hukilau will be making a three-hour trek into the ocean with 150 lucky passengers. Cost of the event is $80 per person, a pretty decent price if you happen to be in the area. The fee covers Mai Kai rum punch, appetizers, and live music. Sunscreen is apparently not included.
They have pictures of the cruise on the website – looks like a fantastic experience.

OK, interesting game from Trader Tiki: a list of 100 drinks to try before you die. It certainly is not a comprehensive list, but has some unusual choices. It has everything from whole milk to Zombies to Budweisers. Bottoms up!

From the “don’t try this at home” collection comes the tiki torch (a lit one, no less) going into a blender. I had higher hopes for something more, perhaps a fireball. Oh well, for your amusement…

The origin of the Mai Tai continues to be debated to this day, but this is an interesting article penned in 1970 by none other than Victor Bergeron himself. Although it only tells his half of the Mai Tai story, it is an interesting read if you are interested in the history of the Mai Tai.
I was at the service bar in my Oakland restaurant. I took down a bottle of 17-year-old rum. It was J. Wray Nephew from Jamaica; surprisingly golden in color, medium bodied, …
