Tiki Mugs
Tiki Mugs are Polynesian-style ceramic mugs often depicting Tiki gods, hula dancers, or coconuts (or all three!). They became popular in the 1930's as the Tiki culture swept across the United States. As tiki bars became increasingly prominent, they found elaborate ways to serve the stiff rum concoctions that were served to patrons. Flowers, fresh fruit, and open flames were all popular garnishes for a Navy Grog or Mai Tai. The tiki mug, however, pulled it all together.Today, tiki mugs can be both a collectors item as well as a tropical reminder of a simpler state of mind. Tiki mugs of today come in designs ranging from the traditional mugs of Trader Vic's to more modern designs inspired by Homer Simpson. Either way, the tiki mug makes a great collectible and a cool addition to your next party.
